• Crowning Moment of Heartwarming: An Alternate Character Interpretation has the ogre from Hop-o'-My-Thumb (the one who ate his daughters) be depressed now that he's all alone, so he starts making small toys and objects to pass the time and letting his beard grow out. Until one day, his hair white with age, he decides to do something about all these toys: give them out to young children on Christmas Day. D'aaawwwwwwww.
• Misaimed Fandom: He created the character of superhero "Super-Dupont" as a parody of French chauvinism: he meant to look like the stereotype of a Frenchman (beret, moustache...) who fought an enemy called "Anti-France" and fought for French cultural identity. What went wrong is that right-wing nationalistic parties used Super-Dupont as a symbol of French cultural identity. Due to this, Gotlib decided to quit using the character.
• Weird Al Effect: Many things that are parodied in his comics have become very obscure or even unknown for younger viewers. Bougret and Charolles (whose appearances are caricatures of fellow cartoonist Gébé and Gotlib himself) are parodies of French detective TV series Les Cinq Dernières Minutes broadcasted from the late 50's to the early 70's , but most readers nowadays wouldn't know that.
