Gods and Generals/Trivia
- Executive Meddling: The original cut ran for 5 hours, and the execs ordered it cut to a more manageable 3.5 before they'd release it in theaters. Sadly, while it's easy to see the reasoning behind this, this shorter (and regrettably much choppier) cut is also why the movie was so poorly-received and why the trilogy was prevented from being completed.
- Franchise Killer: The theatrical version was such a critical and financial bomb that it killed the director's original plan for a third movie.
- Hey, It's That Guy!: Hub from Secondhand Lions is Robert E. Lee! (Or Gus from Lonesome Dove.)
- Captain Sheridan is General Longstreet.
- The Other Darrin: Robert Duvall replaces Martin Sheen as Robert E. Lee. (Duvall is an actual descendant of the Lee family and looks a great deal more like the real Lee than Sheen.)
- Bruce Boxleitner replaces Tom Berrenger as General Longstreet.
- An odd subversion--Stephen Lang plays Jackson, but in Gettysburg he appeared as George Pickett.
- Recut
