Genre Motif/Folk
A staple of the portrayal of underdeveloped areas, it generally gets used when trying to portray a rural setting as completely devoid of external culture. Very common in the Deep South. An alternative use of the genre is in period peices of the 1950s and 60s where it is used as an expression of rebelion often tied to protest music.
Examples:
- The rebelion incarnation is used in the film Berkley.
- The "Dueling Banjos" (one is actually an acoustic guitar) scene in Deliverance is an example of bluegrass.
