Film Fic

A Film Fic is a Fanfic which is the plot of a film—usually romantic in nature -- adapted to star the characters of another fandom. It sounds like a cheat, but it's surprisingly difficult to remain faithful to both the film and the characters, especially in slash fic. The worst of these end up as transcripts of the target movie with the names changed.

Examples of Film Fic include:

• There is a Peter/Mohinder fic fused with the film Music And Lyrics.
  • Both this and Fusion Fic happened to Peter and Mohinder quite a bit a while back.
  • There's also a Heroes Peter/Claude fused with The Princess Bride.
• This ^{[dead link]} McKay/Sheppard version of "An Affair To Remember".
• A fic from about ten years ago which rewrote the entire script of The Princess Bride using Star Wars characters and with some judicious lightsaber duels, fighting, torture, revenge, Jedi, Sith, chases, escapes, True Love, the Force.
• A fanfic that was essentially Fight Club with Mario characters playing the roles, Mario being the unnamed protagonist and Luigi being Tyler Durden.
• There are some Fairly Oddparents Gen Fic Oz and Peter Pan ones.
• There's a Daria fanfic where Daria is Marty and Aunt Amy is Doc Brown in Back to The Future, the entire trilogy.
• Similarly, Undocumented Features includes a storyline where Doc Mui creates a time-traveling DeLorean, and he and Marty Rose ape Back to The Future.
• Jennifer Morales' You've Got Ranma presents a Ranma ½ Alternate Universe deeply patterned after the romantic comedy You've Got Mail.
  • Which is interesting, seeing how You've Got Mail is one of several remakes of The Shop Around the Corner.
• Harry Potter and the Florinese Dream by Lady Norbert puts the Harry Potter characters into the setting and storyline of The Princess Bride.
• There is an L/Light fic fused with The Fifth Element... Near was the commander, Mello was Zorg, Beyond was the shapeshifting alien, Mikami was the priest, Misa was the Diva, L was Dallas (Bruce Willis's character) and Light/Kira was Leeloo.
• Griffin's Eleven, with Family Guy characters in Ocean's Eleven.
• Love Is Strange by garryowen does a rather magnificent job of fusing Kirk/Spock slash with the film Dirty Dancing, with Spock as the Baby character and Jim as Johnny.
• There's a fanfiction with a Princess Bride plot (well, another one) which uses characters from Rurouni Kenshin. It's actually not half bad.
• Decks Fall, Everyone Dies by Kalarin adapts the plot of Moulin Rouge to the Yu-Gi-Oh! world and attempts to blend the original English dub with Yu-Gi-Oh the Abridged Series, all while having parody songs to keep it as a musical. It looks like actual effort may have been put in.
• In Doctor Who fandom, the This Time Round series Storytime! is basically "Lit Fic" ... with the No Fourth Wall characters complaining every step of the way.
• There exists a combination of My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic and Little Shop of Horrors with Pinkie Pie playing the part of Seymour. It maintains the tone of the former, for the most part, with plots being adapted and altered so that no one has to die, and it incorporates parody lyrics to keep it as a musical.
• There's a Fullmetal Alchemist fan fic which runs on an adaptation of the plot of Look Who's Talking. It is actually astonishingly well done.
