Fable (video game)/Characters
This page is for characters whose only appearance is in Fable I. For characters who appear in I as well as another game, see Fable.
The Player Character
The Hero of Oakvale
- Always Male: Unlike subsequent games in the series, Fable I does not allow you a choice of gender.
- Bow and Sword in Accord: Unless you use a melee weapon besides a sword.
- Dude, Where's My Respect?: None of the other Heroes treat you respectfully besides the Guildmaster and Maze, although Briar Rose does get better in the expansion.
- Farm Boy
- Heroic Mime
- The Pawn
- Wearing a Flag on Your Head: Removing his trousers reveals a pair of Union Jack underpants. This makes sense if you think about it.
Other Heroes
The Guild Master (A.K.A. Weaver)
- Eccentric Mentor
- Former Teen Rebel: He led a rebellion against the leaders of the Heroes Guild in his youth alongside Maze, due to their belief that a hero should chose their own morality rather than be forced to do good.
- Laser-Guided Karma: A loading screen in Fable 2 reveals the Guild Master may have been found dead at one point with the worlds "Your health is low" carved in his forehead.
- Mission Control
- Narrator
- Retired Badass
- Stop Helping Me!: "Try to get your combat multiplier even higher!"
Whisper
- Action Girl
- Always Second Best
- The Rival
- Simple Staff: Her Weapon of Choice.
- Walking the Earth: If you spare her, Whisper ends up leaving the Guild to do this. According to the Oracle in The Lost Chapters, she eventually settles down and becomes a famous guardian of an unknown land in the west.
Maze
- The Archmage
- Broken Pedestal
- The Dragon: To Jack Of Blades.
- Ethnic Magician
- The Mole
- Volcanic Veins
Briar Rose
- Action Girl
- Ascended Extra: Had only a few cameos in the original game, she becomes much more important in The Lost Chapters.
- Badass Bookworm
- Blue Blood
- Bob Haircut
- Dark and Troubled Past: Her family were wealthy nobles before falling on hard times, and her mother died in an accident. Her father blamed her, even though nothing could have been done, and cast her out.
- Doppelganger Attack: One of her tactics if the player choses to fight her in The Lost Chapters.
- Parental Abandonment
- The Smart Guy
Thunder
- Badass
- BFS
- Jerkass With a Heart of Gold: Depends on your actions. If you killed Whisper and stole Lady Grey from him, he comes off quite reasonably, as you have pretty much destroyed his life. If you didn't, it's basically a case of wounded pride.
- The Rival: Sort of becomes this after you and Whisper fight in the Arena.
- Scary Black Man
- Shock and Awe: He can summon thunder strikes.
Scythe
- Age Without Youth
- Badass Baritone
- Immortality Seeker
- Necromancer: Refered to as one in a loading screen in the second game.
- Non-Action Guy: We have no idea how capable he is in combat. But considering how he's been a Hero for so long, he's probably a Retired Badass.
- Really Seven Hundred Years Old: Possibly. At any rate, he's really old and really looks it. On the other hand, he is hinted to be the Last Archon, which would make him thousands of years old.
Scarlet Robe
- Action Girl
- Action Mom
- An Axe to Grind
- Child Prodigy: Of the killing-monsters variety.
- Cool Old Lady
- Retired Badass
- Slashed Throat
Twinblade
- Dual-Wielding
- Face Heel Turn
- Ungrateful Bastard: Still tries to have you assassinated after you spared him.
Jack of Blades
Jack of Blades
- Big Bad
- Evil Sounds Deep: In The Lost Chapters, which is a sharp contrast from his original Creepy Monotone / Smug Snake tone of voice in the original edition of Fable.
- Faux Affably Evil: Uses pretty informal and relaxed language for an Eldritch Abomination. His constant snarky mocking and trash talk come to mind.
- Grand Theft Me: His M.O.
- Hidden Agenda Villain
- Humanoid Abomination: Due to Demonic Possession.
- In the Hood
- Malevolent Masked Man
- Manipulative Bastard
- Mask Power
- One-Winged Angel: In Lost Chapters only, where he becomes a gigantic fire-breathing dragon.
- Sealed Evil in a Can: In a mask, to be more specific.
