Establishing Character Moment/Fanfic

• In Breakaway of the For Good Fan Verse, Chapter 10 provides concise introductions of the protagonist's teammates. After being established as a prodigy, Ricki performs a Sherlock Scan on Erin. The very next scene introduces us to Windy and Ice. Windy is established as an impatient, sarcastic, Genre Savvy Expy of Dr. McCoy; Ice is established as a Genre Blind Naive Newcomer who is Overshadowed by Awesome and provides the Running Gag of the fic.
• Since the Sherlock Holmes story Mortality of the Deliver Us from Evil Series contains Loads and Loads of Characters, it requires several Establishing Character Moments. One scene introduces several Yarders and establishes three of them.
  • Patterson's Establishing Character Moment is probably the most concise, introducing him as cynical, sarcastic, cold, and something of an in-universe Expy to Sherlock Holmes. In other words, a true Knight in Sour Armor.
  • The same scene introduces and establishes Lestrade as a dry-witted, Older and Wiser, generally world-weary Team Dad and Only Sane Man.
  • The third character thus introduced in that scene is Gregson, quickly established as a smart, snarky Jerk with a Heart of Gold.
  • Wiggins's first scene neatly establishes him as a sardonic, concerned Hypercompetent Sidekick.
  • Mary's first scene sets and cements her sibling-esque relationship with Sherlock.
