Eromanga Sensei

A 2013 light novel.

Masamune Izumi is a 15-year old light novel writer that lives alone with his 12-year old step-sister Sagiri since their parents have died. Sagiri refuses to even come out out of her room and Masamune barely sees her.

One day, Masamune discovers that the illustrator of his light novels, an anonymous artist known as Eromanga Sensei, makes live transmissions on his blog through the Internet. That's when Masamune discovers by looking at the background of the video that the partner that he never met was his step-sister all along!

Tropes used in Eromanga Sensei include:
  • Accidental Pervert: Izumi, after a risky balcony jump from Yamada's house to his own, falls over Sagiri and ends up partially opening her jump, revealing a part of her flat chest.
  • Appeal to Popularity: Elf Yamada dismisses Izumi's complains about his novels by mentioning they sell a lot better than the ones written by him.
  • Author Appeal: In-Universe. Elf Yamada views nudity as the natural state of humanity, as she believes that god created the first humans as naked (and although she might not have said it, humans are born naked). Heroines are often naked in her stories.
  • Blatant Lies: By the time Sagiri admits she is Eromanga Sensei, it's already pretty obvious she is.
  • Buxom Is Better: Izumi wrote in big fat letters that "Eromanga Sensei" needed to increase the size of the breasts of an character.
  • Dirty Kid:
    • Sagiri is 12 in the present and has been working along with Masamune since she was 10 and her illustrations are said to be pretty erotic.
    • Megumi is even worse; she tries to seduce Masamune at first and openly asks him about his penis.
  • Elegant Gothic Lolita: Elf Yamada is first seen wearing a pink ghotic dress, in a completely normal Heisei setting. It is presumed she is a fan of this fashion style.
  • Hikkikomori: Sagiri is one. By the time the story begins, she has been in this state for one year.
  • Mistaken For Gay: Megumi thinks Masamune is gay at first because she fails at seducing him.
  • Most Writers Are Writers: Yes, this is a light novel about a light novel author and a light novel artist.
  • Princess Curls: Elf Yamada seems to invoke this trope, with her fancy dress and curls in her hair.
  • Reality Ensues: Masamune jumps from the balcony of Yamada's house towards the one of his own to meet Sagiri....He manages to, but inertia isn't friend of anyone and he falls over his sister.
  • Reclusive Artist: Sagiri has been one for a long time when the story begins.
  • Scenery Censor: The cable of a telephone handle hide Yamada's nipples in a scene where she is naked.
