  • And the Fandom Rejoiced: Typical fan reactions to EXCEED can be summed up as: "Sweet, better graphics, new boobs characters, and... OHMYFUCKINGGOD, IT'S AXEL AND ALFIMI!!!" Then enters the second preview video highlighting the villains, one of whom, seen only for a fraction of a second, bears a powerful resemblance to WODAN YMIR from the main series. Fanboys were officially frothing at the mouth.
  • Crowning Music of Awesome: Most of the soundtrack should qualify, since the majority are awesome remixes of old Super Robot Wars/Namco X Capcom character themes, but special mention goes to the remix of the Super Robot Wars Advance main theme "Where Infinities Meet".
  • Designated Hero:
    • Ironically, Reiji and Xiaomu note that sometimes, the native part of the gang acts just as bad as the villains.
    • And before Reiji and Xiaomu join up, Kaguya, Suzuka and Aschen cheerfully talked about beating information out of Kyon:

  • Demonic Spiders:
    • The Katanas, a.k.a. Saya clones might count: they take more than just one full combo string to go down and are capable of dishing out its own long attack string. God bless if you happen to do battle with more than one of them at the same time. We're looking at you, Mark Hunter.
    • The Surfer subclass are even worse than them, they have ridiculous amounts of speed (thus higher initiative) and if they want to, attack you before you can strike back.
  • Ear Worm: Koma's theme song.
  • Evil Is Sexy: Saya and T-ELOS.
  • Game Breaker:
    • In the original, Reiji fits this trope: he gets the Spirit Command "Soul", which doubles attacking power, plus his damage output is the highest out of the party. By mid-to-three quarters of the game, it's Haken who can wipe the floor against any Mook with a "Valor" (50% increase to attacking power) plus Rampage Spectre.
    • KOS-MOS counts, to a lesser degree: not only is she a very capable fighter and among the sturdiest of characters, she also comes with a healing spell that covers the entire party. Then there's her Spirit Command "Attune", which prevents a "Miss" or "Guard" while attacking enemies, further maximizing damage.

      She's already a gamebreaker at the start when you recruit her: KOS-MOS literally begins with the Spirit Command "Fury" (Kaguya gains it later in the game, but her attack stat's comparably lower), bypassing all enemy barriers on the first hit. Combined with her moveset, she can tear through Mooks and bosses. The only problem is learning how to juggle her combos, but that's relatively easy to overcome. Unfortunately, the other setback is she's the slowest in the party.
    • In EXCEED, Suzuka slowly edges towards this: in addition to her naturally high speed she had in the first game, getting a high hit count now serves to restore a set % of SP after battle. This is further aided by her movelist: if one of her moves that normally only bounces the enemy on top Suzuka while she twirls her fans around is combined with a support attack that holds the enemy in place, they'll instead be hit repeatedly, chaining for an exceptionally long attack string in the hundreds; with the right Spirit Commands, this can be repeated twice per turn. Her multi-target Overdrive also has the second highest hit count when used against 3 enemies, while her character-specific technique of healing a random party member/enemy for tons of HP, then dealing an equal amount of damage to a random party member/enemy might be even more useful due to enemies having less HP overall in EXCEED. Finally, one of her passive abilities involves reviving any downed party member and fully restoring HP. Her main weaknesses are her relatively low HP and defense as well as being diffcult in giving follow up moves to other teammates, though.
    • And Xiaomu, she is the only character without a multiple hit Limit Break but it is compensated by the fact she can hit anyone (Bosses included) with Status ailments, provided it doesn't prevent them from taking turns (Paralysis and Stun), Flunky Boss like Saya's minions and the Jotun siblings are otherwise normally immune to status ailments. Also she has Zeal and Daunt, which for first one gives her several normally inaccessable seishins while the other reduces the gauge.
  • Scrappy Mechanic: Forced Evasion.
  • That One Boss:
    • The first fight with Kyon: she and her Joker Soldier flunkies inflict Standard Status Effects with their attacks at a point where you can only use items to remove them (unless you Level Grind Kaguya to gain a Spirit Command to get rid of it). Should Kyon attack one party member instead of three, there's a chance it's going to be a long combo string that includes her Overdrive.
    • In EXCEED, MARK FUCKING HUNTER: Flunky Boss with three Katanas, exceptionally devastating and LONG attack string and a heavyweight, despite appearances. Chances are if he targets one party member for a combo, expect that character to be knocked out.
  • Woolseyism: Aside from the one glaring mistake mentioned above, Atlus added their usual amount of benevolent tweaks. Among other things, Tomb Raider and Cow and Chicken get Shout Outs.
