Fridge Horror
- This troper found himself horrified right after the first battle against the Cascarudos (beetles), at the roundabout, when Salvo, Favalli and the rest of the militaries move along. The author then proceeds to name some distinctive buildings and locations when the characters passes by them. One of them is the Escuela Mecánica de la Armada, which was, from 1957 (when the story was written) to 1983, one of the most important military buildings of Argentina, so to speak. Exactly thirty years later, the author Héctor Germán Oesterheld was carried there during the last Argentinian dictatorship (then, and now euphemistically, called "National Reorganization Process"), which is infamous for the disappearance of people by arresting them illegally, extreme physical and psychological torture and illegal executions. Extra points for you if you know about the tortures enforced there and in every other illegal detention center; drowning, raping, fusillade simulations, burial in mass graves, electric shocks in genitals while tied up to a table, birth and appropriation of babies born while their mothers were in captivity (which didn't earned them any special treatment). And the very next year, his four daughters, which were probably as young as you reading this, were also illegally arrested, systematically tortured and disappeared like his father, one of them while being pregnant and other being mother of a baby. The grandson born in captivity was rescued by Elsa Sánches, Oesterheld's widow, while the other was raised by the father's grandparents.
- From El Eternauta: The whole premise of the traveling through time and space seems really cool from the very beginning... If you don't think too hard on it. Due to messing with Eldritch Technologies, Juan Salvo becomes the Eternaut, the "Traveller of Eternity", traveling through time and space over and over. This mean that he was able to escape the likely complete extinction/enslavement of the human race, but he can't control this power. On the other hand, the same thing happened to Elena and Martita, his beloved wife and daughter, both also drifting through the many continuums of timespace together... hopefully. So Salvo faces the tragic condition of being Last of His Kind, knowing positively that his family is somewhere out there, jumping through time and space, facing the endless dangers and horrors of the universe on their own, with a infinitesimal chance of ever finding them. Needless to say, he holds onto the hope that he will find both, asking for them to every single creature he finds. And he finally does... In a way... or does he?. Don't ask me.
