Editing Works

Making changes to an existing media work. Responsible for many kinds of Derivative Works:

Patching

• Modifying one or more of the files of a video game.
• Types include Fan Translation and Game Mod.

Redubbing

• Replacing the voice track on a video.
• Types include Gag Dub, The Abridged Series, and Hong Kong Dub.

Remixing

• Making a meaningfully new work using pieces of an old one.
• Comes from mixing the individual tracks of a musical recording together again in a new way, such as to make a dance mix of a pop song.
• Types include Fan Vid, Machinima, Remix Comic, and, less seriously, YouTube Poop.

Relettering

• Replacing the lettering on Sequential Art.
• Types include Remix Comic and Scanlation.

Resubbing

• Replacing the subtitles on a video.
• Types include Fan Sub and Gag Sub.

Translating

• Converting meanings from one language to another.
• Types include Fan Sub, Fan Translation, and Scanlation.
