    Denis Villeneuve is a French Canadian film director and writer. In Canada, he is known for Polytechnique (2009), based on the École Polytechnique massacre of 1989, and Incendies (2010), which was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2011.

    Internationally, he is best known for his critically acclaimed crime-thriller films, including Prisoners (2013) and Sicario (2015), the science fiction drama Arrival (2016), which received 8 Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director, and Blade Runner 2049 (2017), the sequel to Ridley Scott's Blade Runner (1982).
