Daytona USA/YMMV
- And There Was Moderate Optimism: SuperModel emulator has been released. It's still in alpha stage, but it already runs Daytona USA 2 (Battle on the Edge and Power Edition) and SCUD Race (normal and Plus).
- The Xbox Live Arcade and Playstation Network releases of the original, as well. More poignant since this means Sega now retains the Daytona license again, putting at least a port for Daytona 2 in the realm of possibility.
- Ear Worm: Rolling Staaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrt!!!!
- Fan Nickname: The player car in the original was referred to by fans as the "Hornet", in reference to the logo on the rear bumper and hood. Was eventually canonized by Sega in Daytona USA 2 PE.
- First Installment Wins: Very few people play or remember Daytona USA 2 or SCUD Race.
- Gameplay Derailment: The original Daytona USA let you powerslide through corners through strategic gear-shifting. Daytona USA 2 suggests that this wasn't the intended purpose of the shifter, as attempting the same technique on it will result in a spinout instead.
- Make of it what you will. The HD versions have different 'trials' you can play that require you to emulate specific driving scenarios. Many of them are "drift through this turn while maintaining a certain speed" and some of them are run using a Manual transmission car. The game points out how to use downshift drifting and basically makes it a requirement (the target speeds are set higher than is doable with a braking drift if you're using a manual car).
- Mondegreen
- "I WANNA FRYYYY SKY HIIIIIIIIIIGHHH!!!! LETS GOOOOOOOOOO TO GAY BAAAAAAR"
- Most Wonderful Sound
- "Time Extension!"
- "The white flag is out! This is the final lap!"
- Narm Charm (Sure the music is filled with Engrish lyrics, but it's still very catchy.)
- Not so much Engrish as overly descriptive lyrics: This is your crew chief. The courses are really tough, but it's a beautiful day, so good luck!
- Porting Fender Bender: The Sega Saturn port captured the fun and music from the arcade game, but not the graphics. Hardly a "disaster" but it wasn't the best effort either.
- That One Level: The Expert level in the original and the subsequent updates is tough. It can be done, but you gotta practice, practice, practice.
- Ditto for Daytona 2's expert level.
- They Just Didn't Care: Championship Circuit Edition's cars have mirrored textures on their right sides.
- There aren't mountains anywhere in Florida, let alone Daytona Beach.
