Dark Theory
Cole Cameron Jr. is the young, teenage son of a prominent physicist, Dr. Cameron. After the death of Cole’s older brother Richard in a motorcycle accident, Dr. Cameron deals with his stress by spending all of his time on his work and neglecting Cole. Trying to win his father’s affections, Cole works on his father’s experimental teleportation device late at night. A freak lightning bolt strikes the particle accelerator for the machine, and the resulting catastrophe sends Cole to a “parallel world”. Cole must enlist the help of the parallel world’s versions of himself and his father in order to find the “Dark Theory”, which allows for inter-universe travel. However, a series of terrorist attacks in the parallel world thrusts Cole into being blamed for the attacks. Cole must stop the attacks, return home, and reconcile with his father, all while coming to terms with his life.
Dark Theory is an upcoming indie action adventure game. The game began development in January, 2011, in Game Maker 8. It features retro-styled graphics and a catchy fakebit soundtrack. Originally created as a parody of Cave Story, the project snowballed into an entirely different game. Dark Theory is a Metroidvania, but it is unique due to its integration of parkour techniques.
- All the Myriad Ways: Averted. Cole genuinely wants to help the alternate universe.
- Alternate Universe: Pretty much the entire game takes place in one.
- Another Dimension
- Art Evolution: The game had a less than stellar 16-bit style, but now it's sporting a shiny new Cave Story-ish makeover.
- Barefoot Cartoon Animals: Eloc and the others don't wear shoes.
- Bookworm: Eloc.
- Retraux
- Teleporters and Transporters
- Token Minority: Brandon seems to be the only African-American character.
- Fragile Speedster: Cole. His punches are weak, but he sure can run. This often leads to Hit and Run Tactics.
- Muggle Best Friend: Cole is...normal. He's a teenage Canadian athlete who lives with his scientist father.
