Dark Star/Awesome

This John Carpenter's first feature length film is mostly a slow parody of 2001: A Space Odyssey and other "philosophical" SF films. It ends with the main characters failing to convince an artificially intelligent bomb to not explode. Only two characters survive the blast, one is taken by mysterious aliens out of nowhere and the other surfboards down a planet's atmosphere on a piece of wreckage.
