Recursive Canon: In the 2018 novelization of the Doctor Who episode "The Day of the Doctor", Kate Stewart reveals to Clara Oswald that this film and Dr. Who and the Daleks‎ were inspired by the Doctor's actual adventures, that the Doctor loaned Cushing one of his coats and that the two were "great friends".
