Contra Farce
Contra Farce is an internet Sprite Comic created by R. C. Powell. It is a parody of the the NES Video Game Contra Force, the bastardized, Dolled-Up Installment of the popular Contra series. It was first made in August 2007 and originally ran for twelve strips before it was essentially banned by Deviant ART for "copyright violations." It sat abandoned and forgotten for two years before ultimately being resurrected for posting on Drunk Duck.com where it sits today. Unfortunately, due to computer issues, the comic hasn't been updated in months, and the author has declared it essentially dead again.
The creator R. C. Powell also makes a Furry Comic called Stubble Trouble.
The plot concerns a group of four wacky (and mostly-clueless) mercenaries as they try to save Neo City from an evil terrorist organization know as "The Association of Syrian Separatists, Welsh Insurgents, and Polish Extremists," or simply "ASSWIPE". The story originally took place in 1992, but moved to 1994 when the comic was brought back to life.
Though mainly silly, the comic varies between telling jokes and occasionally grusome 8-bit violence and action. The majority of the sprites come from Contra Force, though there are instances of sprites from other games used.
The main characters are:
- Burns
- Burns is a hard-nosed, gruff, no-nonsense military man. He has served in the US Army from Vietnam through Desert Storm and often works as a hired mercenary. He was recruited by Deputy Mayor Simmons to lead a team of mercenaries to help save Neo City's kidnapped mayor. He often comes to conflict with his immature team mates, feeling like he's teacher to "a bunch of fifth-graders". His weapon of choice is a submachine gun.
- Iron
- Iron is basically an idiot man-child who loves BFGs and explosions. He served in the army, but was discharged for being clinically insane. Iron is prone to accidents and will often get himself into trouble without a second thought. He uses a multi-purpose bazooka gun that can become a machine gun as well as a flamethrower.
- Beans
- Beans is the youngest member of the group. Rebellious and hard-headed, Beans is the demolitions and sabotage expert on the team. He has a problem with authority and is often cynical and sarcastic. He carries a pistol and several different types of time bombs.
- Smith
- Smith is the teams' sniper. A joker, he was not able to go with the rest of the team on their first mission because he was stuck in a locker at HQ. It Got Worse for him...
- Deputy Mayor Simmons
- Simmons is acting as Deputy Mayor while the city's real mayor has been kidnapped. Incompetent and not-all-there, Simmons enjoys sitting around "doing" his job... until he is captured by the ASSWIPEs himself.
- Augustus Flint
- Augustus Flint is a Big Bad; a violent, radical anarchist in charge of ASSWIPE. A former Army comrade of Burns, Augustus betrayed his squad during the Iran-Contra scandal and later dedicated himself to bringing down the corrupt governments of the world, starting with the US.
