Contact (film)/Awesome
Film
- For such a low-key film, John Hurt's role as reclusive trillionaire S.R.Haddon in Contact is pure hammy CMoA, stealing the movie despite only getting two scenes. Any of his lines would qualify, but his last ones are particularly good:
"First rule in government spending: why build one when you can have two at twice the price? Only, this one can be kept secret. Controlled by Americans, built by the Japanese subcontractors. Who also happen to be recently acquired, wholly-owned subsidiaries of Haddon Industries. They still want an American to go, Doctor. Wanna take a ride?"
- The Final Reveal on whether or not Arroway really did meet the aliens:
"I was especially interested in the section on Arroway's video unit. The one that recorded the static...The fact it recorded static isn't what interests me...What interests me is that it recorded approximately eighteen hours of it."
- The childlike awe on Elenore Arroway's face as she perceives the Milky Way galaxy from the outside, and weepingly repeats to herself, "They should have sent a poet!"
News Reporters: Reverend Joss! Reverend Joss, what do you believe? What do you believe?
Palmer Joss: [pause] As a person of faith I'm bound by a different covenant than Doctor Arroway. But our goal is one and the same: the pursuit of Truth. I for one believe her.
