Conflict/Playing With

Basic Trope: Something to overcome so that the work would have a meaningful plot.

  • Straight: Uwe has to defeat a monster.
  • Exaggerated: Uwe has to overcome his depression, fight Eldritch Abominations, survive the plague, flood, get his spirit enlightened, make his society accept him and defuse the bomb at the same time within a hour. From the beginning to the end, there is no breather.
  • Justified: The monster is evil and seeks to destroy everything that makes life worth living.
  • Inverted: Uwe's just sitting there, doing nothing, when all of a sudden, a monster goes up to him and kills him. The end.
  • Subverted: Uwe has to defeat a monster, but he doesn't feel like it and goes back home and eats some donuts or something.
  • Double Subverted: It turns out the donuts are what gives him his powers. After eating them, he rushes back to defeat the monsters.
  • Parodied: "Oh, come on, I have to fight ALL these monsters? What's the point? They didn't do anything!"
  • Deconstructed: Uwe is a soldier for the Empire and is forced by the Empire to slay monsters. These "monsters" are actually an innocent (albeit grotesque to the normal human eye) race of humans and are targeted by the Empire simply because they look different.
  • Reconstructed: Their innocence was a facade all along and their destruction was very necessary.
  • Zig Zagged: Uwe must battle a monster to save his home, but the monster turns out to be a false legend when he goes to battle it inside of its cave. A legend created by an evil wizard hoping to lure Uwe into the cave to kill him; by summoning a gigantic monster that kills the wizard and stomps off towards Uwe's town to destroy it. It can't find the town because it's never left the cave before. It wanders into the ocean and drowns before Uwe can catch it.
  • Averted:
    • Uwe lives in a happy world and the work shows him showing the happy world to us.
    • Alternatively the said work is a documentary about a daily life of people Lumambustan.
    • Alternatively, the work is a an entry for 2032 Rumbleglass Demoparty.
  • Enforced: The executives don't accept the work with nothing happening that would keep the viewer on the edge of their seat.
  • Lampshaded: "So you really wanted me to have problems just to keep the show running"
  • Invoked: God thinks that Uwe's happy world is boring. So he creates evil so conflict can occur.
  • Defied: "Let's just not fight, big monster guy. Let's just settle our differences and move on with our lives." "OK."
  • Discussed: "Unlike in most media you see, there is nothing amiss in this happy land."
  • Conversed: "Every movie I see has the same old plot - kill the bad guy, save the day, the end. How unoriginal."
