• Actor Allusion: Pretty much everything. The English voice actors were specifically chosen for their roles due to how closely related their personalities are. For example, Troy Baker is trapped in Fantasy Land, and falls into a relationship with a very seductive girl.
• Casting Gag: Intenionally done in the English Version. The roles of C/Katherine can be directly comparied personailty-wise to Michelle Ruff and Laura Bailey's characters in Persona 3 (Yukari) and Persona 4 (Rise), who are both Lovers Arcana characters. And for the most fun, the Lovers Arcana interpets into a choice between lovers! Not to metion they are both using the exact same "voices" for both characters.
• Defictionalization: Atlus's special edition of Catherine comes with (among other things) real life versions of a pizza box from the bar Vincent frequents, one of Vincent's shirts, and even a pair of the boxers Vincent wears in his nightmares.
• Hey, It's That Voice!: Naturally, this being an ATLUS game.

  • Either Serah's getting married to Snow or Rise decided to marry Kanji with a supernatural twist.
    • Or Lust is just doing what she does best.
  • Yukari's gonna be pissed when she hears her fiancé's having an affair, with the female main character!
    • Rita Mordio is dating Yuri Lowell?!
  • Yosuke lost his virginity to a transsexual!
    • And that transsexual happens to also be either Polka, Cherion Archer, or Ion.
  • And let's not forget that Pharos is being creepy again.
  • Kanji's other best friends are Akihiko and Theodore
  • No wonder Adachi hates women, he's got serious mommy issues!
    • Saïx now runs a bar and gives nightmares to his patrons.
    • And Ansem, Seeker Of Darkness is one of them!
  • Vincent's friends Orlando and Jonny are voiced by Hiroaki Hirata and Takehito Koyasu respectively, and Norio Wakamoto is the Stray Sheep's bartender and Thomas Mutton/Dumuzid. Junko Minagawa is Erica, Midnight Venus, and the mysterious voice/Astaroth.
  • In the English version, Troy Baker is Vincent, Laura Bailey is Catherine, and Michelle Ruff is Katherine. All have appeared in a previous ATLUS title.
  • Vincent's friends in the English version are voiced by Yuri Lowenthal as Toby as well as the mysterious voice/Astaroth, Liam O'Brien as Orlando, and Travis Willingham as Jonny.
  • The Narrator is Jamieson Price while the Boss and Dumuzid is voiced by Kirk Thornton.
• No Export for You: Intentionally subverted. Atlus initially played at the North American fanbase by claiming that they had no plans to release the game outside Japan in a late February 2011 interview. After roughly a day of a raging fanbase, Atlus Faithful members received a cryptic e-mail in Catherine colors with the phrase "Do you still like us?". Whether the teasing was intended to continue or not is unknown as GameStop accidentally leaked the official release date a few days later. Atlus finally confirmed it with an e-mail announcing the official site and the tagline "...Cat's out of the bag". Clearly they never intended to leave Catherine behind, but they were aware of the trope.
• Relationship Voice Actor: Averted at first with Koichi Yamadera and Norio Wakamoto, who previously voiced Spike and Vicious. Played straight with The Reveal.
  • Troy Baker and Laura Bailey who were Snow and Serah, Excalibur and Maka, Kanji and Rise, and Nagi and Evangeline in the first series are Vincent and Catherine in this game.
    • Laura and Michelle Ruff are rivals in this game, just like Chun Li and Crimson Viper.
  • Hell, most of the Black Knights are out for Vincent's blood...
  • This is not the first time that Troy Baker and Jamieson Price have come to blows over a woman and a world. Nor the first that the latter has ended up subservient to the former.
  • Another one for the Japanese dub, Vincent and Katherine are Kaji and Misato.

• Urban Legend of Zelda: A game with adult situations and a couple of hot babes? Check. Rampant rumors of how to get said babes fully naked on-screen? Check and Check!
• What Could Have Been: Tutorial icons for a PC version have been found in data, but their placement and name suggests such an idea was scrapped very early, and it may have just been for development builds.
  • According to some unused dialogue, the man of the Random Couple you see can recite the full code for the Extra Mode in Rapunzel.
    • There was supposed to be more dialogue explaining a few things about the characters. For example, a cut script shows that Jonny is a bit anxious about a company merger.
