Catch Phrase/Playing With

Basic Trope: A character has a recurring remark.

• Straight: Bob keeps tacking on "You dumb broad" to some of his comments.
• Exaggerated: See Verbal Tic, except with an entire Catch Phrase.
  • Bob's speech is composed entirely of Catch Phrases.
• Justified: Bob's Catch Phrase is a habit that he picked up, and his friends either don't mind it or think it's funny enough for him to keep using it.
• Inverted:
  • Phrase Catcher
  • There is one thing that Bob will never say, no matter what the circumstances.
• Subverted: Bob says a catchy saying once, but everyone thinks its a Catch Phrase.
• Double Subverted: He then starts using that as a catchphrase.
• Parodied: The only thing Bob says is his catch phrase.
• Deconstructed: Bob has a disorder that forces him to repeat some of his phrases endlessly.
• Reconstructed: Bob does not have a disorder, he just likes saying his phrase.
• Zig Zagged: Bob's little phrase is present in some episodes, completely absent in others, and varies in frequency.
• Averted: Bob has no Catch Phrase.
• Enforced: The writer says, "Oh, really?" a lot, so he makes the main character say that as well, so he won't feel alone.
• Lampshaded: "Bob really says, 'I know, right!' often."
• Invoked: Bob really likes that line, so he says it as much as he can.
• Defied:
  • Bob says "You dumb broad" twice, then stops saying it to avoid repeating himself over and over.
  • Bob never says the same thing more than once.
• Discussed: "You're a superhero, a superhero has to have a catchphase!"
• Conversed: "Like the way the Hulk is always going "HULK SMASH"."
