Castle Wolfenstein/Trivia

  • Fan Nickname: Castle Wolfenstein is sometimes referred to as Wolfenstein 2D to differentiate it from the later Wolfenstein 3D.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: Neither of the Muse Software titles have seen a major re-release or port since the '80s. Thankfully, Silas Warner's widow released the source code for both games online following his death, and both games can easily be downloaded from a number of abandonware sites.
  • Outlived Its Creator: The Wolfenstein franchise has outlived Silas Warner. Although he wasn't involved with further games, he endorsed the use of the name.
  • Shrug of God: Whether or not the Allied Soldier (the protagonist of the Muse Software games) and B.J. Blazkowicz (the protagonist of the later games) are the same character.
  • Write What You Know: Silas Warner was inspired to create Castle Wolfenstein after playing the 1980 arcade game Berzerk, and then watching the World War II movie The Guns of Navarone. The former influenced the gameplay style, and the latter the setting and plot.
