  • As of 2019, Margaret Atwood is the only author to have had three books on Canada Reads: The Handmaid's Tale in 2002, Oryx and Crake in 2005, and The Year of the Flood in 2014. None of them won.
  • In 2014, Wab Kinew defended The Orenda, which won. In 2015, Wab Kinew hosted the show, making him the only person to ever be a defender and a host.
  • Nonfiction works have won only in 2012, 2018, and 2019 — and the 2012 theme was "true stories".
  • Two works of Young Adult Literature have been featured on the show: The Marrow Thieves and When Everything Feels Like the Movies. Neither won Canada Reads, but both have been awarded the Governor General's Literary Award.
  • Lawrence Hill is the only author with more than one winning book: The Book of Negroes in 2009 and The Illegal in 2016.
  • As of 2019, The Book of Negroes is the only book to have won both Canada Reads and Le combat national des livres.
