Call of Duty: Black Ops II/YMMV

  • And the Fandom Rejoiced:
    • The initial announcement in its entirety. A futuristic setting? A story written with the help of David S. Goyer (from The Dark Knight and Dark City fame)? "Strike Force" missions that can influence the story depending on how well you do? For a series synonymous with lack of creativity and stagnation, the many changes promised by Treyarch is shocking, and even the most cynical members of the Hatedom are cautiously optimistic.
    • On a more story-related note, many are also quite happy to hear that Woods is alive.
    • Players were also happy to learn that Alex Mason, Jason Hudson, and Grigori Weaver would return for the 1980s portion of the game.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • The confirmation of horses is pretty much the only thing everyone took away from the trailer, ignoring the sci-fi setting. Cue people calling the game "Clop of Duty" and other incredibly lame horse puns.
    • "The keys, Mason! What do they mean?"
      • Alternatively, "Mason, use the numbers to find the keys."
  • Ruined FOREVER: Some fans were not happy when it was revealed that most of Black Ops II will take place in the future, wishing that the game would have stuck instead with the historical Cold War setting of the first game. People who are unhappy with the near-future setting have been making statements like "If I want to play a futuristic shooter, I'll go play Halo."
  • Win Back the Crowd: Much like the Fandom Rejoiced example, this seems to be an attempt to bring some new life into a series that many people consider to be nothing but rehashes. How this will work out though, only time will tell.
