Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter/YMMV

  • Crowning Moment of Funny: The novel has a few, but probably one of the best is when Mario, Julia, Javier and Pascual go from town to town looking for somebody who wants to marry Mario (who is legally underage and is doing all of this behind his parents back) and Julia. Specially when the climax of that arc is when a old, illiterate civil worker suggests, as a solution for the spoilered problem, to fudge Mario's birth certificate to make him older than he actually was... something that none of the above, allegedly smarter and more educated, had ever considered.
  • Nightmare Fuel: A child being eaten alive by rats.
  • Values Dissonance: Mario’s mother is more preoccupied with the fact that aunt Julia is a divorcee than the fact she has 14 years more than he.
