American Horror Story/YMMV
- Non Sequitur Scene: The robbery/shooting at the end of "Piggy, Piggy".
- Complete Monster: Constance; evil bitch who treats her only surviving child horribly, robs her neighbors, and who actively torments poor Moira, who she murdered and who in spite being almost raped by Constance's husband, is treated as if she was a whore
- Tate. Let's rack up his crimes, shall we? He burned Larry alive, brutally murdered Chad and Patrick, raped his girlfriend's mother, murdered 15 High School students, killed Phil the Exterminator and Ryan Murphy has even said Tate is the monster of the show, spoilers in link.
- Crowning Moment of Funny / Lightmare Fuel: Harvey hitting Hayden with a shovel.
- And then Ben builds a gazebo in under an hour. Scary because he was hiding a body, funny because it's ridiculous.
- Draco in Leather Pants: Tate.
- Ensemble Darkhorse: The Rubber Suit Man seems to be the character that everyone's talking about.
- Adelaide has a large fanbase as well.
- Fan Nickname:
- Brohst (bro-ghost) for Travis, Constance's boyfriend.
- Frankenbaby, for the...creature in the basement from the first episode AKA - Nora's returned-from-the-dead child.
- Narm: All over the place, but one thing stands out. The line about Ben burying his sorrow "in some twenty one-year-old's pussy" was clearly intended to be dramatic; it is listed on the Funny subpage.
- Narm Charm: The show seems to intentionally play up its similarities to old horror movies and indulge in some of the soap-opera-esque ridiculousness that was present in Dark Shadows (the series upon which it is presumably based).
- Nightmare Fetishist: It appears that Hayden REALLY enjoyed stabbing Travis.
- Nightmare Fuel
- Viv being put into a mental institution through Hayden's manipulations and Violet's lying and no one believing her.
- Violet finding her body. There are flies in her mouth and her eyes are rolled back into her head.
- Harvey's dead, horribly-burned wife and children acting as though they were still alive.
- Role Association: One of Tate's school shooting victims is played by Ashley Rickards, who was Evan Peters's love interest on One Tree Hill. It makes the association kind of funny.
- So Bad It's Good: Even the shows critics admit that even when it's bad it's still immensely entertaining.
- Squick: After explaining that her mother had always recommended it during the first trimester of pregnancy, Constance instructs Moira to feed Vivien pig organs. She later drops off a brain, which looks disturbingly human. Vivien devours it raw. Even Vivien seems squicked by how readily she ate it.
- Tear Jerker: The look on Moira's face when she realizes her remains will never be moved. The song that plays in the background makes it worse.
- In episode 4 as well, when Moira decides to Mercy Kill her mother, whose ghost then asks her daughter to travel together to the afterlife. Unfortunately, Moira can't. She seems to have a lot of these, doesn't she?
- And Constance trying desperately to drag Addie's body towards the house so she'll come back as a ghost. Kinda makes you go They Really Do Love Each Other.
- In episode 10, when a crying Tate reveals to Violet that she didn't survive her latest suicide attempt and that she was Dead All Along.
"You died crying. I held you, you were safe. You died loved..."
- Viven who is now dead comforting her distraught daughter. Also a Crowning Moment of Heartwarming
"I didn't lose my baby."
- Vivien dying during childbirth, with Ben apologizing and telling her to live while Violet tells Viv it's okay to die, and that they'll be together forever. And all of this happened in episode 11, the penultimate episode.
- Unfortunate Implications: Hey, kids, let's play a game: list all the female characters with a motivation not tied to wanting a man or (more specifically) having a baby. Then list all the other female characters and have a good gawk at the comparative sizes.
- The Untwist: The origin of the rubber suit. We're told early on that it belonged to Chad and Patrick. Then we get a whole story explaining its backstory. And it turns out that...Chad bought it. And not even in a strange way, he just went to a store.
- The Woobie: Moira, who who was almost raped by Constance's husband, only to be shot when found in that position and is trapped in the house/verbally tortured by Constance, who considers Moira to be a "whore". When her body is found only to be promptly covered with concrete, Constance cruelly taunts Moira by telling her that since her body can never be moved now, that she'll be trapped in the house for all eternity.
- Don't forget poor little Addie, who wanted nothing more than to be a pretty girl for Halloween, and get's run over by a car while trick-or-treating.
- Tate. Yes, he shot up his school, but it clearly wasn't by choice. And one only has to look at his I love you speech to Violet in "Piggy, Piggy" or his confrontation with the dead teens in "Halloween Part II" to see the extent of his suffering.
- More like Monster Sob Story since he doesn't seem that preturbed by a lot of his more questionable actions, dead or not. He still knowingly got his lover's mother pregnant remember.
- To be fair, him and Violet weren't lovers at the time.
- Also to be fair, he has a compulsive need to please the ladies of the house. Nora wanted her baby, he wanted to help her. All downhill from there. He killed Chad and Patrick for the same reason. They weren't going to have a kid.
- It has now been revealed that Tate knew he was dead and what he did all the time and was only lying for convenience.
- More like Monster Sob Story since he doesn't seem that preturbed by a lot of his more questionable actions, dead or not. He still knowingly got his lover's mother pregnant remember.
- Nora. Yes, she starts out as a Rich Bitch who belittles her husband and only cares about her status, but having her baby kidnapped, mailed back to her in jars, and having her husband transform their child into some sort of abomination, leading her to kill husband and herself? You can't help but feel a bit sorry for her.
- Violet. Not only is she surrounded by unexplainable craziness and dangerous ghosts, but she's also dead and now has to spend eternity with someone who she may not love, judging by her faces in episode 10.
- And then there's Ben who as of episode 11 is the only member of the Harmon family currently still alive. The scene where he desperately tells Vivien to live on so they can continue their life together followed by the him sitting alone with her dead body was a real Tearjerker.
