• Ensemble Darkhorse: Ling. She was originally only a recurring character, but, since fans loved her, she was moved to a full time cast member. After the actress who played her left the show, the popularity of the show on a whole went down quite a bit.
• Gratuitous Special Effects: There was at least one Imagine Spot Once an Episode. It typically used CGI, which was extremely rare for a law drama in the 1990s. The CGI dancing baby is another example.
• Nightmare Fuel: Seriously, the dancing baby is damn creepy.
• Tear Jerker - in the end of episode 36 "Angels and Blimps", the Littlest Cancer Patient succumbs to his leukemia.
• The Woobie - John Cage, a sweet guy who seems to get the short end of the stick from the universe, from rejection to half the cast accidentally laughing at his pet frog's funeral.
• Wangst - Pretty much everybody regarding their love lives at one point or another.
