< Allen Gregory
Allen Gregory/YMMV
- Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Possibly Gina. While she is constantly on the verge of slitting Allen Gregory's throat for anything, she does not seem to have a problem with Joel's bullying. Also, when she asks Allen Gregory's mother to make him apologize, she sounds like a whiny 5 year old about how he hurt her feelings.
- She admittedly has a tantrum when Allen does not think she is good enough for his play.
- It's her job to enforce order and having a bratty student like Allen who doesn't respect her whatsoever is not conducive to classroom control. Allen's lucky he's gotten away with as much as he did and on the basis of Allen and Joel both getting away with a lot, you can attribute it to Gina just not having the capacity to monitor everything everyone says in the class rather than her being permissive of Joel's nastiness.
- It's one thing to call out a noisy kid over a quiet one when the whole class is talking. It's another when the entire class is quiet and Joel's openly nasty to the kid.
- Whole class talking? Allen Gregory makes disrespectful comments when the class is suposed to be listening. He insults her much moreso than Joel insults him when the class is equally silent. The difference is that Allen is directing them at her while Joel is usually insulting him after he's being a prick. Yeah, she's suposed to be the teacher, but even when its a kid treating you like crap you're still going to be annoyed and enjoy him being slighted by others.
- Darkness-Induced Audience Apathy: This is the big reason why the series got canceled after only seven episodes, practically nobody liked just how big assholes the characters were.
- Dude, Not Funny
- Ensemble Darkhorse: Julie and Jeremy, for being rather sympathetic. Also, Sheila, Allen Gregory's biological mom, except not really, for her being a competent mom and humiliating Allen Gregory.
- Fridge Horror: There's a lot of this in the De Longpre household: Richard basically Mind Raped a straight man into being his lover. And Allen Gregory just assumes that this is what relationships are like.
- The superintendant openly sexually harrasses and is implied to have date raped Gina. He's never recieved any comupance for these actions. Likewise, Allen acts like this is perfectly normal and often laughs at the superintendant highly amoral antics.
- Ho Yay: One-sided: Allen wants to be on Joel's good side, oblivious that he doesn't want any of it.
- Les Yay: In Gay School Dance, Beth and Val are pretty much the only students who seem to enjoy the setup.
- So Okay It's Average: The opinion of viewers who didn't loathe it.
- The Scrappy: Allen Gregory himself is viewed as this by nearly all viewers of this show. Also his father Richard, for being a plain horrible person.
- Uncanny Valley: The characters look off, especially Allen who looks way too much like a ventriloquist dummy.
- Unfortunate Implications: Played for Laughs, natch. Richard is pretty much every negative stereotype and right-wing gay agenda conspiracy theory, minus the conspiracy part (adopts a child for all the wrong reasons and badly mistreats her; raises his artificially created biological son to be as perverse and amoral as himself; rapes and "converts" straight, All-American family man) taken Up to Eleven. Except instead of being intended as scaremongering, he's meant to be hilarious.
