Admiring The Abomination

Basic Trope: A scientific character marveling at the destructive power of a dangerous creature.

  • Straight: “This is incredible – an orange Abomineldritch! I have to study it!”
  • Exaggerated:
    • The scientist ultimately keeps the Abomineldritch as his pet.
    • Alternately, he is obsessed with constructing a menagerie full of Abomineldritches
  • Downplayed: The scientist is interested by the Abomineldritch's anatomy, but stops pursuing his research with it after realizing the danger he is in.
  • Justified: said Abomineldritch happens to be the Last of Its Kind.
  • Inverted:
    • The Abomineldritch is highly interested in the scientist.
    • The scientist is an Absolute Xenophobe.
  • Subverted: “Amazing! An orange Abomineldritch!...and it’s headed right for us! RUN!!
  • Double Subverted: “…But you have to admire how fast it is!”
  • Deconstructed: The scientist had a nasty brush with an Abomineldritch in the past, and that encounter has left him with a nasty scar across his cheek and made him an Absolute Xenophobe as he now considers the Abomineldritch to be his most hated rival of all.
  • Parodied: “…I wonder if I can catch one…Hey, I wonder what it tastes like?”
  • Averted: Everyone involved quickly focuses on finding a way to destroy the Abomineldritch.
  • Lampshaded: “ I SWEAR TO GOD, Doc, you just have to study every one of those things you find, dontcha?”
  • Exploited: The Evil Overlord unleashes his orange Abomineldritch, knowing the heroic scientist will be too enthralled by it to notice as it tears him a new one.
  • Discussed: “Incredible…an orange Abomineldritch!” “That’s nice, Doc, now do you know how to KILL IT?!”
  • Conversed: “Dude, how much longer is that guy gonna stand there drooling at it?”
