Career

Early career

Kim came in as a semifinalist on Korea's Got Talent 2 in 2012.[2]

In 2016, Kim was invited to appear on a new music program about amateurs facing-off professional singers called Vocal War: God's Voice. In the pilot episode, Kim earned the chance to proceed to the next round with his rendition of Boohwal's "The Beautiful Truth".[3] He eventually emerged as the winner of the first episode with his performance of "Autumn in Front of the Post Office" which was originally by Yoon Do-hyun, the veteran singer he competed against.[4]

2017–2018: Produce 101 and Wanna One

Kim participated in the South Korean boy band survival show Produce 101 season 2, which aired on Mnet from April 7 until June 16, 2017, as an individual trainee without an agency. He received a B in the judge's evaluation, and placed 27 in the first episode. He worked his way up to the top 11, placing fourth, and eventually debuted with Wanna One. He received a total of 1,051,735 votes.[5] He officially debuted with Wanna One during Wanna One Premier Show-Con on August 7, 2017 at the Gocheok Sky Dome with a mini-album 1×1=1 (To Be One).[6]

Kim made his final appearance as a Wanna One member in their final concerts, titled "Therefore", held across four days, ending on January 27, 2019 at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul, where the group held their debut showcase.[7]

2019: Solo debut

In 2019, Kim signed with Swing Entertainment, which previously managed Wanna One.[8] Kim's debut extended play, Another, accompanied with the title track "Begin Again", was released on May 20, 2019.[9] His second extended play, Moment, was released on December 12, 2019.[10]
