1997 Football League Second Division play-off Final

The 1997 Football League Second Division play-off Final was a football match played at Wembley Stadium on 25 May 1997, at the end of the 1996–97 season. It was the 11th play-off final in all at the third level of English football. The match determined the third and final team to gain promotion from the Second Division to the First Division, and was contested by Brentford, who had finished fourth during the league season, and Crewe Alexandra, who had finished sixth. Shaun Smith scored the only goal of the game to give Crewe a 1–0 victory.
