Summary

During summer Hungarian Ferenc Puskas arrived to the club[1] after a 2 years FIFA ban on the player,[2] the move was controversial due to player's age (31 years old) and overweight reasons to be rejected by Juventus, Milan[3] and Manchester United.

However, Puskas and Di Stefano completed a lethal duo with an astonishing campaign collecting for the club the fourth consecutive European Cup defeating Just Fontaine's Stade de Reims. Although Puskas missed the Final match due to a technical decision by head coach Luis Carniglia who was fired after that by Chairman Santiago Bernabeu.[4] Also, Di Stefano clinched another topscorer individual trophy with 23 goals, being his teammate Puskas the second place with 21 goals.

The squad finished in a decent second spot in League table 4 points behind champion FC Barcelona a record 89 goals scored. In June, the club reached the Semifinals of Copa del Generalísimo defeated by FC Barcelona.[5]
