History

Wooden chairs from the Ming Dynasty provided Wegner with inspiration for his design

The Wishbone chair is the last iteration of a number of designs Hans Wegner produced starting in 1944; for the series, Wegner found inspiration in round wooden seats of Ming China.

In 1948, Holger Hansen of Carl Hansen & Søn commissioned Wegner to produce a chair similar to prior designs of the series.[3][4] Hans Wegner created the design in 1949; the model went into production the following year.[1]

The chair has been in continuous production since its original release.

In 2017 Carl Hansen & Son bought out the manufacturer DAFI Tropicdane with plans to improve the production process.[5]
