WhiteHat Jr is a Mumbai based Edtech startup by Karan Bajaj that focuses on teaching coding to young kids.[1] The online platform is made for children (ages 6 to 18) learn programming and are then encouraged to create games, animations and applications. The startup works with a live 1:1 online teaching format and a thoroughly researched curriculum.[2]The subjects range from data structure, app and game development to machine learning and space technology.[3] [4]

History

The startup was launched in December 2018.[5][6] As reported in 2019, the organisation engaged with 150,000 students and 3000 teachers with 10,000 classes per day.[7][8][9][10][11] In 2020, the organisation reported 400,000 students.[12][13]

On August 7 2020, Whitehat Jr. was bought by BYJU'S for $300 million.

Special Programs

WhiteHat Jr serves as a grooming platform for aspiring young tech creators with innovative in-house programs like Silicon Valley Challenge and Fellow 15 Under 15. The winners of Silicon Valley Challenge get an opportunity to visit Googleplex and interact with their engineers and to visit the Waymo facility to experience driverless cars and talk to their product managers. With the Fellow 15 under 15 program, WhiteHat Jr helps the top 15 kids on the platform to incubate their own start-ups and provide a $15,000 fellowship to them.[14]

Company expansion

WhiteHat Jr first expanded to the US market, receiving over 20,000 paid subscribers. It has witnessed 100% month-on-month growth rate even during COVID-19 induced global lockdown. In June, 2020, the company announced its plans for further expansion into new geographies including the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.[15][16][10]
