Budget Crisis

VUSD is currently in a budget freeze. The district wishes to raise funds on the special needs program but also is trying to secure that the budget isn't drastically affected. The district faced a $19.5 million deficit but they brought it down to about $13.5 million. During the first board meeting relating to what they should cut union workers headed by Union President Bill Faust rallied as Faust believes the district is mismanaging the budget as the board paid out the rest of the former Superintendent Linda Kimble's contract and wished to add 2 extra periods to the schedule of high schools which would've costed about 6 million dollars.

Now as of Nov 7th the district only needs to cut about $13.5 million and might think about cutting technology, equipment, staff, and counselors.

On Friday Nov. 15 the district cut the resource officers in highschools for next years fiscal budget.

The budget problem is also occurring throughout many districts throughout the state of California as districts are having to compensate more for retirement of teachers. Matt Doyle the new superintendent wishes to communicate with the community and the district has released a news letter.
