Vincent Accettola

Vincent Accettola (born March 23, 1994) is a Chinese American producer and arts administrator, currently serving as Managing Director of the National Youth Orchestra of China.[1]

Early life and education

Accettola was born in Syosset, New York and grew up as an only child in Colts Neck Township, New Jersey.

After graduating from Biotechnology High School in Freehold Township, New Jersey, Accettola attended Yale University where he earned a B.S. in Psychology and Political Science. He subsequently attained an Ed.M. from Harvard University following study in the Education Policy & Management program at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.[1]

While a student at Yale, Accettola served as the President of the Yale Undergraduate Screenwriters Guild.[2]

Career

As a senior at Yale University, Accettola began collaborating with his roommate Owen Brown to create the National Youth Orchestra of China (NYO-China), a music festival modeled closely after the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America (NYO-USA) with an annual residency and concert tour featuring approximately one hundred of the country’s most outstanding young musicians.[3]

Enlisting the assistance of education philanthropist Mei He, composer and CPPCC Standing Committee Member Ye Xiaogang, Carnegie Hall and its Executive & Artistic Director Sir Clive Gillinson, and the Yale School of Music and its Dean Robert Blocker, Accettola and Brown launched the first season of NYO-China in summer 2017 with a sold-out concert at Carnegie Hall headlined by pianist Yuja Wang and conducted by Music Director of the Seattle Symphony Ludovic Morlot.[4]

The National Youth Orchestra of China has since gone on to become the premier symphony youth ensemble in the country, having performed in concert halls across three continents and achieving critical acclaim in The New York Times, People’s Daily, and Der Tagesspiegel.[5][6][7] The orchestra has also taken on a significant diplomatic role for China, with the organization hosting chamber recitals at the embassies of the various countries it visits on tour.[8]

In his capacity as Managing Director of NYO-China, Accettola produced several live broadcasts of the orchestra for NPR, Medici.tv, and ARTE.[9][10][11] He also produced and co-directed the upcoming documentary 中国特色交响乐团: Orchestra with Chinese Characteristics alongside Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Christine Choy.[12]

Public service

In November 2014, Accettola was elected to represent Colts Neck Township on the Board of Education for Freehold Regional High School District, the largest district of its type in New Jersey.[13] Upon his inauguration, he became the youngest elected official in the district’s history to serve on its Board of Education.[14]

Awards

Accettola was named a 2019 Rising Star by the Hurun Report, publisher of the annual Hurun Rich List of Chinese billionaires.[15]
