Vera Jovanović

Vera Jovanović (Serbian Cyrillic: Вера Јовановић; born 1947) is a politician in Serbia. She has served in the National Assembly of Serbia since April 2017 as a member of the Serbian Progressive Party.

Early life and career

Jovanović was born in Belgrade, then part of the People's Republic of Serbia in the Federal People's Republic of Yugoslavia. She is an economist in the city.[1]

Political career

Before her election to the National Assembly, Jovanović was a member of the municipal assembly in Rakovica, Belgrade.[2] She served on the community's employment council[3] and was the leader of its women's union.[4]

Jovanović received the 192nd position on the Progressive Party's Aleksandar Vučić — Future We Believe In electoral list for the 2014 Serbian parliamentary election.[5] This was too low a position for election to be a reasonable prospect, and indeed she was not elected despite the list winning a majority with 158 out of 250 seats.

She was promoted to the 138th position on the successor Aleksandar Vučić – Serbia Is Winning for the 2016 election.[6] The list received 131 mandates, and she was once again not originally elected. She was, however, able to take her seat in the assembly on April 21, 2017, as a replacement for Marko Blagojević, who had resigned to take an ambassadorial position.[7]

Jovanović is a member of the parliamentary friendship groups for Belarus, China, Greece, India, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Montenegro, Russia, and Spain.[8]
