Tyagbir Hem Baruah College

Tyagbir Hem Baruah College (Assamese: ত্যাগবীৰ হেম বৰুৱা মহাবিদ্যালয়) is an institution for higher education located in Jamugurihat in Naduar area under Sonitpur district of Assam, India.[1] The college was established in 1963. The college is named after Tyagbir Hem Barua, a noted Indian independence activist, social worker and writer of Assam.

Geography

Tyagbir Hem Baruah College[2] is an institution for higher education. The college was established in 1963.

The college is located at Karchantola within the Naduar area and is about 4.5 km away from the heart of Jamugurihat towards east. The campus has a nice looking surrounding endowed with different kinds of valuable Plants, Wetlands, Ponds and a Small Tea Garden. The necessary civic amenities such as Bank, Hospital, Post-Office, Police Station etc. are available within a reachable distance. There are internal roads, street lights, canteen, gym, out-door stadium etc. in the college. The college is well connected with roads and is situated alongside of the N.H.-52. in a distance of 55 km eastward from the District H.Q. Tezpur and 20 km westward from Biswanath Chariali.

Courses

The college offers the following courses: Two-year higher secondary courses in arts, science and commerce under Assam Higher Secondary Education Council, Three-year degree courses in arts and science stream under Gauhati University and U.G.C sponsored career oriented courses[3] are conducted in this college.

Facilities

Computer Center

The Computer Education Center of THB College was started from Sept’2003[4] in collaboration with C-DAC. The Computer Center of THB College has been set up to keep pace with the developments in the information and communication technologies to keep track of the latest developments in Computer Software/ Hardware technologies, Internet technologies to impart knowledge & to facilitate the students & staff of the college to acquire the same.

The Center provides various career oriented long-term, short term & modular computer software courses for the students. All the courses are designed with the latest methods that are introduced in the field of IT Education. The Computer Center provides possible assistance in conducting research works of the faculties of the college & also helps in analyzing their data etc. The Computer Center organizes and conducts short term computer literacy crash courses for the teaching & non- teaching staff of the College.

Keeping in mind the stupendous problem of the educated unemployed youths, the Computer Center is also facilitating the youths of greater area of this locality to reach these facilities of learning all Professional Computer Courses that help them in procuring jobs in different fields. The Computer Center also assists various Departments in the college in computerizing their activities. The Computer Center possesses a well-equipped computer laboratory. The library of the Center provides book facilities for all the courses. Reference books for all the courses are also available in the general library of THB College.

Central Library[5]

The Central Library of T.H.B. College was set up in 1963 with a collection of about 1,050 books and a few journals. Presently, the CL has own building and large number of books.

NCC, NSS and Scouts and Guides, scholarships, hostels, canteen, Gymnasium are some of the facilities in this college.
