Thomson Orioles

The Thomson Orioles were a minor league baseball team based in Thomson, Georgia in 1956. The Thomson Orioles were members of the Class D Georgia State League. Thomson was an affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles.

History

The Thomson Orioles played the 1956 season in the Class D Georgia State League. The Thomson Orioles were an affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. The 1956 Thomson Orioles finished 61-59, 4th in the Georgia State League, playing under managers Enid Drake and Barney Lutz. The Orioles qualified for the Georgia State League playoffs. In the 1956 playoffs, the Sandersville Giants defeated Thomson 3 games to 2. The Thomson Orioles season attendance was 40,849, an average of 681 per game.[1][2]

The Thomson franchise folded when the Georgia State League itself folded after the 1956 season.[1][2]


The ballpark

The Orioles played at "The Brickyard". The stadium is still in use and is located at 612 Main Street Thomson, Georgia, 30824. Today, The Brickyard is home to Thomson High School athletic teams.[3][4]
