Thomas Eldred

Thomas Eldred (07/01/1535-12/31/1602) was an English merchant and mariner.[1][2] He is notable for having sailed with Thomas Cavendish on the ship Desire, during the second English circumnavigation of the globe between 1586 and 1588.[2]

He used to live at 97 Fore Street, Ipswich and was commemorated locally until recently through a pub of the same name. However the pub was knocked down in 2012. He was buried in the churchyard of St Clement's Church.[3]
