The Troubles in Belcoo

Incidents in Belcoo during the Troubles resulting in one or more fatalities:

1973

• 5 September 1973 - Patrick Duffy, 21, a Catholic civilian, was killed by a booby trap bomb when he drove his tractor into a field near Belcoo.
• 7 September 1973 - Matthew Lilley, 54, an off-duty member of the Ulster Defence Regiment, was shot by a Provisional Irish Republican Army sniper while delivering milk near Belcoo.

1976

• 15 May 1976 - Harry Keys, 29, Francis Kettyles, 39, and Thomas Evans, 33, all members of the Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC), were killed in a Provisional Irish Republican Army land mine attack on their foot patrol searching a field near Belcoo RUC base.

1978

• 25 June 1978 - Alan Ferguson 23, a member of the Ulster Defence Regiment, was shot during a Provisional Irish Republican Army sniper and landmine attack on a British Army armoured personnel carrier.

1986

• 3 February 1986 - John Earley, 21, a member of the Ulster Defence Regiment, was killed in a Provisional Irish Republican Army remote controlled bomb attack on a Ulster Defence Regiment foot patrol near Belcoo.

1992

• 15 November 1992 - Alan Corbett, 25, a member of the Royal Ulster Constabulary, was shot by a Provisional Irish Republican Army sniper while at a RUC vehicle checkpoint. The firing point was beyond the border with the Republic of Ireland.
