Plot

Dayu'er is a Mongol princess who likes Dorgon, the fourteenth son of Nurhaci, a Jurchen chieftain. However, Dayu'er becomes the concubine of Dorgon's older brother Hong Taiji. Hong Taiji is married to Dayu'er's aunt Jerjer but has feelings for Dayu'er's older sister Harjol. Hong Taiji later becomes the founder of the Qing Dynasty with Dorgon as his general and advisor. Dayu'er never forgets her feelings for Dorgon, but she gives birth to Hong Taiji's son Fulin.

After Hong Taiji's death, several of his sons wanted to become the next Emperor. This issue was ordered to be resolved by Jerjer, since she was Empress. Dayu'er grew up close to Jerjer, so Jerjer secretly issued Fulin as Hong Taiji's successor. Fulin ascended to the throne as the Shunzhi Emperor and marries Dayu'er's niece as Empress. However, Fulin passes away from grief after his love of a lifetime Consort Donggo dies. Dayu'er now becomes regent for her young grandson, who ascends to the throne as Kangxi Emperor.
