History

The Fifth began in 2001 out of Fayetteville, North Carolina fronted by Roy Cathey who started out in the late 1980s with a band called Gibraltar. Gibraltar received air play locally with a ballad titled "Real", then in the early 1990s, he joined a band called Cold Sweat[4] with former Keel Lead and Rhythm guitarist Marc Ferrari. Roy Cathey co-wrote "Long Way Down" and "Killing Floor" from Cold Sweat's debut album Break Out. Cold Sweat released the "Lets Make Love Tonight"[5] video to MTV and on that day, Cold Sweat was dropped from MCA records. The breakup of Cold Sweat came when Grunge took over MTV and radio due to its objectively more interesting songwriting.

Cold Sweat spawned two projects for which Roy Cathey sang; "Sweatin' Bullets" and "Pain Society",[6] both featuring ex-members of Cold Sweat. This is Roy Cathey's second time being signed with a Major Record Label.

Roy Cathey is quoted in an interview with The Fayetteville Feed as saying: "you know what the cool thing about all this is? We never set out to be famous, not originally. We were just having fun."[7][8] A reasonable statement, seeing as how they are largely unknown outside of North Carolina's anemic rock and metal scene.
