Telisai

Telisai is a coastal village in Tutong District, Brunei. Officially known in Malay as Kampung Telisai (sometimes Kampong Telisai), Telisai is a village administrative division and a subdivision of the subdistrict of Telisai.[1][2]

Administration

Telisai is a village subdivision, the third- and lowest-level administrative division of Brunei. It is one of the villages under the mukim or subdistrict of Telisai, one of the eight subdistricts of Tutong.[1][2]

The community of Telisai is headed by a village head. As of 2017, it is currently held by Maidin bin Abdul Wahid.[3]

Telisai is also a designated postcode area. The postcode for Telisai is TC1145.[4]

Infrastructure

Education

There are two public schools in Telisai: Tumpuan Telisai Primary School (Malay: Sekolah Rendah Tumpuan Telisai) is a Cluster 4 government school which provides general primary education to the resident pupils of Telisai,[5] where as Tumpuan Telisai Religious School (Malay: Sekolah Ugama Tumpuan Telisai) provides primary religious education,[6] which is a compulsory Islamic religious education to Muslim pupils in Brunei.

Secondary education is not available in Telisai. Instead, students go to Sayyidina 'Othman Secondary School in Bukit Beruang. For the optional sixth form, prospective students go to Tutong Sixth Form Centre, also located in the same area as the secondary school.

Healthcare

Primary care service is available to the residents of Telisai through Telisai Health Centre (Malay: Pusat Kesihatan Telisai),[7] a government community health centre. However, the centre also serves the residents of other villages in the Telisai subdistrict.[7]

Religion

Telisai has a mosque: Kampong Telisai Mosque (Malay: Masjid Kampong Telisai) serves the need of its Muslim residents for Islamic congregational prayers and activities, in particular the Jumu'ah or Friday prayers. The mosque was completed in 1984 and accommodate up to 350 worshippers.[8]

Miscellaneous

Telisai Post Office provides postal services for the residents of Telisai as well as the neighbouring villages. It is managed by the Brunei Postal Services Department.

Attraction

Telisai has a public recreational park: Tumpuan Telisai Recreational Park (Malay: Taman Rekreasi Tumpuan Telisai) is established on a section of the beach coastline which constitutes the coastal border of Telisai with the South China Sea. It is also a designated Forest Recreation Park, thus managed by the Forestry Department;[9] the park has a small patch of coastal forest which hosts a number of interesting tree species, including penaga laut (calophyllum inophyllum), ketapang (terminalia catappa), kulimpapa (vitex pubescens).[10]
