Sumiyoshi Shrine (Fukuoka)

Sumiyoshi-jinja (住吉神社) is the Japanese Shinto shrine at Hakata in Fukuoka Prefecture on the island of Kyushu.[1]

History

Sumiyoshi was one of the chief Shinto shrines (ichinomiya) of the old Chikuzen Province. It serves today as one of the ichinomiya of Fukuoka Prefecture.[2] The enshrined kami are:

  • Sokotsutsunoo no mikoto (底筒男命)[1]
  • Nakatsutsunoo no mikoto (中筒男命)[1]
  • Uhatsutsunoo no mikoto (表筒男命))[1]
