Silli Polytechnic

Silli Polytechnic College (established by the Government of Jharkhand and run by Techno India) is a diploma-level educational institute established in 2013 under Public-Private Partnership mode.[1] The institute is located in a Vidhan Sabha constituency called Silli, a territory of the Jharkhand Government.[2] This institute was initially known as Techno India Silli and later as Government Polytechnic College Silli.[3]

History

The government of Jharkhand signed an MOU with Techno India Group to set up an engineering institute in the Silli block of the Ranchi district in 2012, along with three other institutes at different places in Jharkhand via Public-private partnership.[4] Silli Polytechnic College commenced its academic activity in 2013 as Techno India Silli before the name was changed to Government Polytechnic College Silli for some time. Finally, the name of the institute changed to Silli Polytechnic College in 2017 due to statutory and technical issues generated through several name changes made by the Government of Jharkhand.[5] Techno India Group also runs three more engineering institutes involved in Jharkhand via Public-Private Partnership, including Chaibasa Engineering College, Dumka Engineering College, and Ramgarh Engineering College.

Location

[6] The institute is located in Silli, a town in Silli block of the Ranchi district, Jharkhand. The nearest railway station to the institute is Silli Railway Station, which is three kilometers away. Birsa Munda Airport, the nearest airport, is situated 64 kilometers away from the institute.

Academics

The institute was affiliated with the State Board of Technical Education, Jharkhand until 2017. In 2018, the institute became affiliated with the Jharkhand University of Technology (JUT), Ranchi.[7][8] All courses are approved by the All India Council of Technical Education. The institute currently has five departments of engineering (diploma level);

Admission

Admission to diploma-level courses is based on ranks in the Jharkhand Engineering Entrance Competitive Exam (JEECE), conducted by the Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Examination (JCECE) Board. 75% of the total intake is reserved for the candidates who have entrance examination ranks/results, and the remaining 25% are admitted through institutional quota.

Training & Placement

The institute has a Training & Placement Cell responsible for on- and off-campus placement for students. It also helps to provide internships, industrial training and other forms of training for students during the course.[9]
