Ruth M. J. Byrne

Ruth M.J. Byrne, FTCD, MRIA, (born 1962) is an Irish cognitive scientist and author of several books on human reasoning. As of 2020 she is Professor of Cognitive Science, in the Institute of Neuroscience & School of Psychology, Trinity College Dublin; she is also the former Vice Provost of Trinity College Dublin.

Career

Byrne earned a BA in Psychology from University College Dublin in 1983. She pursued a PhD in Cognitive Psychology from Trinity College Dublin (TCD) in 1987, while also working as a research scientist at the Applied Psychology Unit, University of Cambridge, from 1986 to 1989. She worked as a lecturer in Psychology at Cardiff University from 1989 to 1991, and then lectured in the same area at Trinity College Dublin from 1991 to 1999, as well as, briefly, on Computer Science at University College Dublin. Byrne was elected as a Fellow of TCD in 1995, and became an Associate Professor in 1999, and the holder of a full professorial chair in 2005. She also served as Vice Provost of TCD from 2005 to 2008.[1]

Byrne was elected as a member of the Royal Irish Academy in 2007.[1]
