Professor Rezaul Kabir holds the Chair of Corporate Finance and Risk Management at the Faculty of Behavioural, Management and Social Sciences, University of Twente, The Netherlands. He is also the Head of the Department of Finance and Accounting.

The Department is engaged in teaching and research in the areas of corporate finance, investments, financial risk management and corporate governance. It offers courses in different educational programs of the university, with main contributions to the full-time bachelor and master programs in (international) business administration, industrial engineering & management, and health sciences, and part-time executive master program in risk management. A leading role is played in the Financial Management track of the MSc in Business Administration program. A large number of students are supervised each year in writing their bachelor and master theses.

Current full-time academic staff of the Department are: Dr. Henry van Beusichem (PhD, Rotterdam), Dr. Xiaohong Huang (PhD, Rotterdam) and Dr. Siraz Zubair (PhD, Twente). The Department currently has three full-time externally-funded PhD researchers: Afsheen Abrar, Taufiq Arifin and Cheng Meng. They are performing research on microfinance, political connections, and financial risk management. The most recent PhD graduates were Hanh Minh Thai (Hanoi University of Science and Technology) who wrote a dissertation on corporate social responsibility, and Maziah Nor (University Putra Malaysia) who wrote a dissertation on the customer concentration of firms.

Prior to joining the University of Twente in 2009, Prof. Kabir was a chair professor of finance at the University of Stirling. He started his academic career in the Netherlands at Maastricht University and University of Tilburg. He has also taught courses at universities in Antwerp, Beijing, Curacao, Liege, and New York. His research covers a variety of multi-disciplinary topics including corporate finance, corporate governance, executive compensation, law and finance and corporate social responsibility. He has presented papers at many scientific conferences world-wide, and published in a large number of peer-reviewed international journals like the Journal of Banking & Finance, Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Business Finance & Accounting, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Business Research, European Economic Review and Journal of Multinational Financial Management. Several of his research papers are widely cited by scholars throughout the world, and are also publicly available at the Social Science Research Network. Prof. Kabir has wide-ranging experience in organizing, leading and managing academic units, educational & research programs, and internationalization activities. He is also an Honorary Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Economics and Management, University Putra Malaysia.
