Ransohoff

The Ransohoff family (Russian: Рансонов, Ransonov) is an Aristocratic German Jewish family originally from Westphalia. In Germany, members of the family occupied key positions in the Frankfurt Parliament, became venerated doctors and academics, with some members of the family even receiving knighthoods.[1] The family progenitor Levi Leib Abraham Ransohoff (1761 - 1845), was a wealthy Westphalian merchant. In the beginning of the 20th-century the family immigrated to the United States and Russia. The American branch settled in Cincinnati, and family members such as Joseph Ransohoff, Daniel J. Ransohoff, and Martin Ransohoff rose to great prominence in medicine and the arts. In Russian, the family adopted the surname Ransonov and settled in Moscow and Smolensk, where they amassed great wealth in the banking industry.[2][3]
