R. Jeffrey Orr

R. Jeffrey Orr is a Canadian businessman and currently is the President and Chief Executive of Power Corporation of Canada. He works in the financial services industry and has spent the past two decades in executive positions in Power group companies.

Background

Orr holds a Bachelor of Arts — Honours Business Administration degree from the Richard Ivey School of Business in London, Ontario.[1]

Orr spoke at the Ivey’s inaugural Executive Education Alumni Event [2] in October 2017 about leadership and how people should surround themselves with coworkers rooted with good values and that the values people have in their personal life should be the same values they bring to work. On the impact of technology, he indicated that traditional players of the financial industry could come out as winners if they are able to reinvent themselves and disrupt.

Career

Orr was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of Power Corporation of Canada in February 2020.[3]

He has been President and Chief Executive Officer of Power Financial since 2005.[4][5] From 2001 to 2005, he was President and Chief Executive Officer of IGM Financial.

Prior to joining IGM Financial, he was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of BMO Nesbitt Burns[6] and Vice-Chair, Investment Banking Group, Bank of Montreal. He had been with BMO Nesbitt Burns and predecessor companies since 1981.

Orr has been an adherent of financial literacy, targeted planning and discipline as strategies to help people with retirement readiness, as presented during the International Economic Forum of the Americas 19th Conference of Montreal.[7][8]

Jeffrey Orr has been recognized as one of Canada’s most powerful business people in 2015 by the Canadian Business.[9] At that time, he was overseeing $373 billion in assets.
