Prince Aloys of Liechtenstein

Prince Aloys of Liechtenstein (Aloys Gonzaga Maria Adolf; 17 June 1869, in Hollenegg – 16 March 1955, in Vaduz)[1] was the son of Prince Alfred of Liechtenstein (1842–1907) and Princess Henriette of Liechtenstein (1843–1931), daughter of Alois II of Liechtenstein. The maternal nephew and first cousin of Franz I of Liechtenstein, Prince Aloys renounced his rights to the succession on 26 February 1923, in favor of his son Franz Joseph II.[2]

He was the 1,177th Knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece in Austria.

Marriage and issue

On 20 April 1903, in Vienna, he married Archduchess Elisabeth Amalie of Austria (7 July 1878, in Reichenau – 13 March 1960, in Vaduz). The couple had eight children together.[1]

  • Princess Maria Theresia Henriette Aloisia Alfreda Franziska Josepha Julie Adelheid Margarete Annunziata Elisabeth Ignatia Benedikta (14 January 1908, in Vienna – 30 September 1973, in Funchal, Madeira), married in Vienna civilly on 9 February 1944 and religiously 12 February 1944 Artur Graf Strachwitz von Gross-Zauche und Camminetz (18 December 1905, in Gross Reichenau – 8 October 1996, in Kautzen), and had issue:
    • Antonius Graf Strachwitz von Gross-Zauche und Camminetz (b. 24/25 November 1944, in Zürich), unmarried and without issue.
    • Stanislaus Graf Strachwitz von Gross-Zauche und Camminetz (b. 23 May 1946, in Bern), married at Waidhofen an der Thaya civilly on 2 May 1980 and religiously on 3 May 1980 Eva Kattner (b. 23 March 1956, in Vienna), and had three daughters.
    • Stephanie Gräfin Strachwitz von Gross-Zauche und Camminetz (b. 14 September 1948, in San Sebastián, Spain), married in Overijse, Belgium, on 30 July 1974 Guido Nikolaus Schmidt-Chiari (b. 13 September 1932, in Vienna - d. 21 August 2016, in St Anton am Arlberg), and had six children.
  • Prince Karl Alfred Maria Johannes Baptista Heinrich Aloys Georg Hartmann Ignatius Benediktus Franz Joseph Rochus (16 August 1910, in Schloss Frauenthal – 17 November 1985, in Hainburg an der Donau), married at Schloss Persenbeug on 17 February 1949 Archduchess Agnes Christina of Austria (14 December 1928, in Schloss Persenbeug – 31 August 2007, in Vienna), great-grandchild of Elisabeth, Empress of Austria. They have seven children.
  • Prince Georg Hartmann Maria Josef Franz de Paula Aloys Ignatius Benediktus Martin (11 November 1911–18 January 1998); he married Duchess Marie Christine of Württemberg (daughter of Philipp Albrecht, Duke of Württemberg) on 23 September 1948. They had seven children
    • Princess Margarita Maria Helene Rosa Aloisia Philippine Elisabeth Georgine Josefa Konrada Pia Ignatia (1 May 1950, in Vienna – 25 July 2013), married in Einsiedeln, 20 September 1974 Hans Peter Klien (6 September 1946 – 23 June 2014), son of Bertrand Klien and wife Paula Mittersteiner, and had two children.
    • Princess Maria Assunta Elisabeth Philippine Rosa Helene Aloisia Georgine Josefa Benedikta Pia Ignatia (b. 28 April 1952, in Vienna), married civilly in Vaduz on 24 April 1981 and religiously in Vienna on 9 May 1981 Harald Link (b. 12 January 1955, in Basel), son of Gerhard Link and wife Rüdt Freiin von Collenberg, and had two children.
    • Princess Isabelle Maria Helene Carolina Alfreda Josefa Monika Pia Georgine Hemma Henriette Ignatia (b. 17 May 1954, in Vienna), married civilly in Munich on 23 February 1976 and religiously in Vienna on 28 February 1976 Raimund, Graf zu Erbach-Fürstenau (b. 2 April 1951, in Heidelberg),. They have four children.
